12" African-American My name is Gail, and I am an African American girl. According to the latest United States Census Report, there are more than 34 million African Americans in the United States. African Americans are usually identified by our skin color. There are many shades of brown and black skin tones. I have one sister who has a lighter skin tone than I have, but her hair is wavier than mine. This makes us look different from one another, but we are the same because we are African American. We are both beautiful! My family's history can be traced back to Africa. I am lucky because my mom and aunt know a lot about Black history, and we celebrate our heritage. We talk about how lucky we are to live in a country that allows us many freedoms and the ability to make our own choices. It was not always like this in America, and people in other parts of the world still are not as free as we are. I am proud to be an African American. I am a very good student. My mom says that schoolwork comes first, and then I can enjoy being with my friends. My favorite activity is dancing. Everyone tells me that I am really good at skipping rope too. I am practicing hard because I plan to be in a jump rope competition this fall with my friends. Gail's benefactor organization is:
J-Mac Youth Center
"HI! My name is GAIL. Since my Mom has been working, I have stayed in the program at the J-Mac Youth Center. I started at the center when I was 3. Ms Lillian, she's the director, says that she is really strict! That's okay with me because she taught me to read before I started school! It is really fun to be at the J Mac Center with Ms Lillian and my friends. It's almost time for dinner. I'm here helping out today. Time to go wash my hands! "
By purchasing Gail, a portion of the proceeds will benefit J-Mac Youth Center.
